Term 3 Week 9 - tests and exams

Wednesday 3 September 2008

Yo kids!
enjoying your one week break so far? well, just to back track a little into your week 9's reflections since since we were all busy preparing for class test followed by the guest visit and not to forget, your one and only (hopefully memorable) P5 camp!!!
Wow..with all the buzz of school events, seems like there's so much to think about and write about too!
Hmm...let's take this one at a time.

For a start, i would like you to first focus to reflect on the serious part first, that is on your class test 2. So how do you think you have fared this time?? Better or worse? Or do you care at all? Could you have any better, or are you already doing your best?

As this is your second attempt at the class test, I hope all of you are starting to be better aware of your own strengths and weaknesses in your subjects. This is important and by now, you should realise that Pr 5 work does not allow you to revise last minute and expect to do well. I don't suppose you would want to be depending on luck in your final exams but rather your own capabilities???

So I stress that you really have got to be actively revising through all your work, sorting your files this week.

Reminder: I want to see your files sorted out and all marked WS filed up on first week, Tuesday.

It's midweek now, so if you've been playing up till today, please please START your engines tomorrow! Science especially is crucial as I can see that you people have more or less forgotten your P3 and P4 work judging from your Science practical test...hmmm..... quite worrying. So do get yourselves familiarised with the P3 and 4 work as soon as possible now during the hols, so that you can concentrate on the tougher P5 work when school reopens. It's not alot when you pace yourselves day to day to complete bit by bit. Don't wait till towards the exam and panic with so much from P5 to remember and PLUS P3 and 4. Trust me, don't give yourself additional stress then. So you start RIGHT NOW.

Just a thought to share with all of you....

I was watching the SUPERBAND wildcard show on Mon night. For those of you who do not know what's a wildcard show, it's actually a last chance performance night for those competing teams who have been kicked out of the competition in the earlier rounds due to poor perfomance or lack of audience votes to make a come-back into the competition. And I must say, amongst the few nights that I managed to catch the shows, that wildcard night was a WOW show as compared to the other earlier preliminary rounds. This was a thought shared by all the three judges unanimously too, that the groups all performed their very best only when it was their final chance at getting back into the competition. I guess it must have been a very tough choice on the judges as some groups did phenomenal performances and the level of focus and hard work they put in was clearly displayed.

To conclude the overall performance, one of the judges commented that all the groups had alot of talent, but they never did whole-heartedly put their heart and soul into what they said they liked to do (in this case, making music) until they tasted the bitterness of failure and rejection. And while the groups did put in effort, there were times where the effort made was just not enough to convince the crowd and the judges that they were good enough to stay on in the competition, no matter how talented they actually were.

I thought to myself, if these groups had treated every competition perfomance as if it was like a wildcard show, as if it was their last chance to perform on stage and performed with their most passionate attitude for music, they probably would do a lot better and fared better in their quest towards their dream of being SUPERBAND.

Eventually, only two groups out of eight were selected to be brought back into the competition, and they proved themselves to others that they were not just simply good. But they were capable of more exciting performances to come in the semi-finals. In my mind, I was surprised that some groups could actually improve by so much and do so much better than expected.

And so I bring the question back to you people on your goals to your exams. What are your goals like? Are you putting in your maximum effort throughout the year to achieve your desired results? Or are you going to wait till you have tasted utter failure before you decide to make up for it in the next exam?

Those of whom succeeded in making a come-back have put in extra extra miles of effort to return to the competition.
Are you willing to put in that additional effort that is going to make a difference from simply just passing your subjects to performing to the best of your abilities???

I leave with you with all these questions to ponder and I hope you will understand the purpose in you having to show focus in your lessons everyday.
